Podcasts and Websites and Games, oh my!  Visit the 5th Annual Digital Salon exhibition to see these and more from our creative community of undergraduate and graduate students.

The week-long Digital Salon showcases the artistic and research-oriented projects that take digital form or rely heavily on digital technologies in the production process. The Salon is curated by a committee of UW-Madison faculty and staff.  Look for the "physical" exhibition at College Library, Open Book CafĂ©.  The virtual Salon can be accessed by visiting its site, here.  Previous exhibitions can be accessed

The Digital Salon is organized by UW-Madison Libraries and the DesignLab.

Gardening Apps

As it has been popularly said, 'there’s an app for that' and no less true for the gardening community.  While your most immediately effective tools are likely going to be your fork and hoe, there are a number of handy apps that will enable you to plan and plant.

Try a few today!

Gardenate (available from iTunes App Store, $1.99)
GardenID  (available from MEDL Mobile, $2.99)
Garden Plan Pro (available from iTunes App Store, $9.99 OR online with free trial, GrowVeg.com)
Garden Tracker (available from iTunes App Store, $.99)
iGrowIt (available from iTunes App Store, $.99)
iVeggieGarden (available from iTunes App Store, $9.99)

KD credits librarian Kristen Mastel, University of Minnesota, for list of suggested apps.

New! BookScan Stations

During the spring semester, the campus library system is piloting a new, self-service book scanning system. Three, public stations have been distributed to the libraries, one each to College, Memorial and Steenbock Libraries. Steenbock’s book-scanning station is located on its second floor (entrance level) and to the immediate right as one enters the building.

By means of an easy, step-by-step, touch-screen, one can scan the content from books (or other materials) to a variety of formats (PDF, searchable PDF, jpeg, text and Word) then save to flash drive or Google Docs, email, or print. The equipment includes flatbed and sheet-fed scanners capable of rendering images in color, grayscale and black/white. The printing feature (now only black/white) will communicate with the current "Go Print" release stations.

Come, give it a try and tell us what you think! Need assistance? Speak with staff at our service desks.
