The annual World Dairy Expo, hosted at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, provides an opportunity for producers, industry representatives, and members of academic and professional organizations to meet, compete, showcase and exchange ideas regarding all things dairy.

Native by Design

Save the date!  This early fall, the University Arboretum will host a Native Gardening Conference (Sunday, September 23).  Its theme, "Native by Design: Gardening for a Sustainable Future" will inspire the Midwest gardener to design and to plant spaces that support native wildlife, attract pollinators, and filter runoff.

Tales from Planet Earth, March 28-31

Tales from Planet Earth is a week-long film festival featuring environmental films from around the world. From the fanciful to the profound, the films selected should engage audiences in thoughtful discussion of environmental issues and film media to capture and to examine those issues.

The festival is a public outreach event from the Center for Culture, History, and Environment (CHE) and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.

All festival events are free and open to the public as space/seating accommodates.

This year's film festival runs in conjunction with the meeting of the American Society for Environmental History (ASEH), March 28-31, 2012. Visit the Registration and revised session schedule for more information.

Wisconsin's Energy Future, Earth Day Conference (April 22)

The third annual Nelson Institute, Earth Day Conference will feature programs exploring emerging federal and state energy policies and opportunities to develop sustainable, home-grown solutions—be it via biomass, wind and solar technologies, etc.

While the conference is open to everyone, pre-registration is required by Monday, April 13. The $45 registration fee ($25 for students) covers all materials, a continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments.

The conference will be hosted at the Monona Terrace, Wednesday, April 22.

Geek.Kon (September 27-28)

Get your geek on this weekend with Geek.Kon 2008!


The conference will include gaming events, screenings of anime and sci-fi films, music, costuming, vendors and panel discussions.

Special guests include Matt Sloan and Aaron Yonda (of Chad Vader fame), David Salo (linguist, Lord of the Rings’ Elvish), and Sarah Monette (novelist, sci-fi/fantasy/horror).

While pre-registration has closed, you are still welcome to attend this free conference event.

Sustaining Wisconsin's Environment and Economy (Conference)

Registration is now open for the second annual Nelson Institute Earth Day Conference, Sustaining Wisconsin’s Environment & Economy: Responding to Climate Change.

The conference, to be held April 16 at the Monona Terrace, will explore the potential impacts of climate change on Wisconsin and strategies that may be required in order to protect its health, natural resources and economy.
