Learn how and why Wisconsin became a dairy state when Steenbock Library welcomes author Edward Janus for a special book presentation, December 5, 2011. In his new title, Creating DairyLand, Mr. Janus examines how the history of ideas and the reality of resource degradation would serve to transform the practice of agriculture in the state, or, in other words, show "how caring for cows saved our soil, created our landscape, brought prosperity to our state and still shapes our way of life in Wisconsin." In addition to recounting this dairying revolution, the author shares stories and photos of contemporary practitioners--dairy farmers and cheese-makers. There will be time for questions.

The annual World Dairy Expo, hosted at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, provides an opportunity for producers, industry representatives, and members of academic and professional organizations to meet, compete, showcase and exchange ideas regarding the dairy sector.

Additionally, a deli-counter prepares coffee, breakfast and lunch items. Enjoy your break and we will see you back at the library (where, incidentally, we have books on ice-cream production and its culinary use).

Congratulations are also extended to UW-Madison’s Dairy Judging Team who received top honors in the 90th Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest! See the news release. The team, coached by Ted Halbach and Brian Kelroy, includes: Kelly Sime, Brian Coyne, Chelsea Holschbach, and Ben Sarbacker.
