Steenbock Library welcomes you to visit during the following hours of the spring recess and summer term (May 18-September 2):

As all campus libraries observe different hours of operation during the spring recess/summer term, we encourage you to verify hours of access before planning your trip to campus or to a specific library location.

Do consult our staff should you need assistance finding and using our collections and services.  We are happy to provide reference assistance from the public-services desk or by chat, email, phone, or appointment.

Thanksgiving Holiday Hours

During the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, campus libraries will observe changes from their regular hours of operation. Do plan ahead should you need to visit the libraries or to pick up items from their collections. Steenbock Library will observe the following hours during the week of Thanksgiving:

Winter Break Hours and Online Access

As you enjoy your winter break, be sure to also satisfy your need for information with a visit to the Libraries’ Website.

Even when you’re off campus, simply select the resource you need to use from the site. Resources requiring authentication will prompt you to log in with your NetID. (In some instances, apart from NetID, you may still be asked to submit your University ID number and last name as login and password). Once you have entered either of these two pieces of identifying information, you will be able to use the resource as if you were here on campus.

Should you plan to visit campus, do note that the libraries will be open during the winter recess, but the hours will vary. Plan ahead and visit the list of library locations to see "Who’s Open".

Special note, from the Library Technology Group, regarding off-campus, online access:

Due to campus IT maintenance, login services will be unavailable from 9:00 am through 1:00 pm Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012.
Most services that require a UW-Madison NetID authentication will not function during this time.
Most importantly for Library patrons, off-campus users will be unable to access Library databases during this time. Access to databases from campus buildings should not be affected.

In addition, Library patrons will not be able to use their NetIDs to check their Library Catalog account for book requests, fines, or other information. They will be able to check this information in MadCat (our legacy catalog) using their 11 digit campus ID number.

Steenbock Library will be extending its hours until 3:00 AM, beginning Friday, May 11 and running until Friday, May 18, 2012.  On Saturday, May 19, the library will be open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Should you need to come and go from our building during these later hours, we always advise using the "buddy system" and to walk or share a ride with friends. Additionally, and as need be, do consider using SAFE Nighttime services.

The library will also host a generous donation from University Housing of coffee and lemonade during the evenings, (May 14-16; beginning at 7:00 PM, while supplies last). Look for the beverage service on the first floor (vending alcove).

Late Nights at the Libraries

Steenbock Library is pleased to announce that it is piloting 24-hour study during the 2010 final exam period. Beginning, Thursday, December 16 and running through Wednesday, December 22, the library will be open for 24 hours of each study day.

Should you need to come and go from our building during this extended-hours period, we always advise using the "buddy system" and walk or share a ride with friends. Additionally, and as need be, do consider using SAFE Nighttime services.

The library will host a generous donation from the Lakeshore Residence Halls of coffee and hot chocolate during the evenings, (December 17-22; between 7:00-11:30 PM, while supplies last).

Look for the hot beverage service on the first floor (vending alcove).

24-Hour Study, Finals Week

Steenbock Library is pleased to announce that it will pilot 24-hour study during the 2010 final exam period. Beginning, Thursday, December 16 and running through Wednesday, December 22, the library will be open for 24 hours of each study day.

As there has been much interest for a late-night study location on this end of campus, we welcome your feedback about this service and our facility. Please reply to this post or drop a message into our "suggestion box" near the entrance, on the table beneath the large display monitor.

Should you need to come and go from our building during this extended-hours period, we always advise using the "buddy system" and walk or share a ride with friends. Additionally, and as need be, do consider using SAFE Nighttime services.

The library is also happy to host a generous donation of coffee and hot chocolate from the Lakeshore Residence Hall community. This free, hot beverage service will be in place from December 17 through December 22 beginning at 7:00PM each evening and continuing while supplies last.
