Election Day is Tuesday, November 6! Are you ready to cast your vote?

The polls are open from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM. In order to vote in Wisconsin, you need to be registered and you can still do that at your polling place on Election Day.  Information regarding voter registration can be found on the Government Accountability Board site.

Live Coverage, President visits Campus

Should you not be able to join the crowd on Bascom Hill for President Obama’s address, we invite you to join us at Steenbock Library where a live stream of the event will be shown in Room 340.

Library staff will open the room at 2:00 PM with coverage to begin shortly thereafter.

Free Voter IDs for Students

Don't miss an opportunity to exercise your right to vote! Given recent changes in state law that affect voter identification and registration, UW-Madison students who intend to vote and do not otherwise have Wisconsin state identification will be issued a free, supplemental ID for voting purposes. A student needing this card can obtain one from the Wiscard Office at Union South by presenting his/her Wiscard.

Do note that students who are Wisconsin residents and have a state-issued driver’s license, identification card, US passport, or US military ID will not require this supplemental identification and will be able to register and to vote using these other forms of identification.

Watch the Inauguration, Today in the Libraries

See history in the making! Campus libraries are hosting viewing salons, today, for the events of the Inauguration in DC.

Here, at Steenbock, you can visit Room 340 between the hours of 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM to watch and to listen to President-Elect, Barack Obama take the Oath of Office and address the nation.

Other campus viewing locations include Memorial Union and the Multicultural Student Center.

Change is in Order

The office of President-Elect Barack Obama offers an interactive Web site where you can read news and learn more about the new administration’s transition process.

An additional site—Presidential Transition Resources--also describe this process—with organizational charts and links to documents explaining the duties of the executive, legislative and judicial branches, laws regulating the orderly transition of the executive office, inauguration practice, and requirements for conduct and record-keeping.

The White House Transition Project is a site that attempts a non-partisan approach to information-sharing regarding the challenges of the transition process and some strategies for overcoming them with analysis provided by university scholars and policy analysts.

Register to Vote!

Library staff and volunteers are available at campus library locations to register City of Madison voters for the November election. As these staff and volunteers need to deliver the Registration forms to the City Clerk’s office by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15, early registration will end at 3:00 PM that day. Registration can also be made through your municipal clerk's office or at your polling place on Election Day.
