Canine Campus Crawl (Apr 27)

The UW Pre-Vet Club hosts its annual Canine Campus Crawl on Sunday, April 27 (noon -). This dog-friendly, 2.5 mile run/walk serves as a fundraiser for the Dane County Humane Society and the "One Horse at a Time" project. The run/walk departs from Lot 60 (801 Walnut Street).

Pre-registration can be done online. The pre-registration fee is $15 for one person (no dogs) or $20 for one person (up to two dogs). Registration fees for the day of the event (beginning at 11:30 AM) are $20 for one person (no dogs) or $25 for one person (up to two dogs).

Participants should register by April 12 to enjoy a discount. This pre-registration fee is $15 for one person (no dogs) or $20 for one person (up to two dogs). Registration fees for the day of the event are $20 for one person (no dogs) or $25 for one person (up to two dogs).

An additional $1 donation gets you a photo shoot with your dog!

Big and Small, We Treat Them All! (April 26)

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital will host an open house on Sunday, April 26, (from noon until 4:00 PM) to introduce the public to the many, quality-care services provided to animal patients and their human companions. Open house participants (adults and children) can tour the large and small animal hospitals and observe a variety of demonstrations—from performing CPR to brushing teeth.

The UW Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is located at 2015 Linden Drive. Free parking is available in Lot 62 on the UW campus. Admission is free.

Disaster Preparedness, AVMA

In light of recent severe weather and environmental disasters, it is reassuring to note that the American Veterinary Medical Association offers information to the practicing veterinarian and general public about how to protect and to plan for the rescue of companion and domestic animals.

The AVMA Disaster Preparedness site links to educational/training materials, fact-sheets, guides and resource contacts by state.

Search PubMed for VetMed and Animal Health Literature

Use PubMed to search for veterinary medicine by adding veterinary[sb] to your search! For example: prion AND veterinary[sb]

You can also navigate to Special Queries (from the left, blue side-bar). Select Veterinary Medicine/Animal Health and click veterinary search (link from explanatory text at top of page). Then, use your search History to combine the veterinary subset of PubMed to your other search terms (e.g. #1 AND #2).

Veterinary[sb] is a comprehensive search strategy of subject terms, title words and veterinary and animal health journal titles. It includes 171 core veterinary journals and currently retrieves over 1.4 million PubMed citations. Its oldest citation is from 1867!
